How to be a responsible customer in 2021

The subject of responsible fashion comes up very often in the debates, especially in a context where the fast fashion model is more and more decried. It is important to know that 56 million tons of clothes are sold every year, and that the production has doubled since the beginning of the year 2000.

The ecological consequences of the fast fashion industry are disastrous, and to this we must add very heavy social and sanitary consequences. Indeed, to reach such prices, the workforce is exploited, the workers underpaid, and the working conditions deplorable.

As for the health consequences of fabric production, they are not well known, but they are real. Water pollution and exposure to toxic products emanating from the factories cause numerous health problems for the workers who work there. Handicaps, paralysis, neurological or vascular disorders, investigations are underway on the subject.

How can we play a role in the future of fashion today, given the ease of buying at low prices? How to be a responsible customer in 2021?

I- The return to "slow fashion

Slow fashion, as opposed to fast fashion, advocates the choice to consume products of better quality, eco-responsible and ethical. The production time is longer, and the prices are higher, but the social and environmental costs are lower, and this type of consumption is sustainable, since the production process is respectful of our planet and the clothes are of better quality, therefore more resistant.

II- Consuming locally

Buying local means reducing the time it takes to deliver and transport materials and finished products, and therefore reducing greenhouse gas emissions. If you have a store near you, instead of ordering, go directly to try the article, to avoid returns and to be sure that it fits you! In the same way, choose brands that produce in countries close to yours, to participate in this effort.

III- Trust us

Our commitment as a brand is to make it easier for you by offering ethical clothing, so that together we can move towards a more responsible fashion, to take a step towards a radical change in the way we consume.

We have a relationship of trust with our manufacturers. The factory we work with in Portugal is a family-owned and ethical factory with a unique know-how in tailoring, in which we have complete confidence. Founded in 1973, it now has over 230 employees and follows the guidelines of SA 8000, a social responsibility standard that promotes decent working conditions.

In the same way, we select our fabric suppliers among the best in Italy, and our fabrics are certified eco responsible. Our wool comes from RWS (Responsible Wool Standard) and GOTS (Glabal Organic Textile) certified farms, certifying animal-friendly breeding and organic wool.
