Power Dressing: between a symbol of power and a tool for empowerment

These principles were examined in a 2015 study showing that wearing professional, formal and elegant outfits makes us feel powerful. Fashion therefore has a real impact on our psyche. Our thoughts may even be altered. Our whole vision of the world changes. The way we see ourselves acts like a prism on our environment, modifying our reality.
The authors of this study carried out clinical tests on young students. They took part in a series of experiments evaluating the link between their outfits and their cognition. The researchers then sought to understand whether the attire worn by this cohort of participants had any influence on their reasoning, learning, problem-solving and decision-making abilities.
Here's what they discovered: when students swapped their tracksuits for clothes suitable for a job interview, their thinking became more abstract, making it easier for them to conceptualize big ideas, adopt strategic viewpoints and take a global view of given problems. These skills, essential for executive positions, prove that power dressing is much more than a clothing trend.
