Article: Les secrets d'une matière naturelle: la laine

The secrets of a natural material: wool

We often hear that natural materials should be preferred over all others. But why? What are the properties of one of the materials we wear the most: wool?

IDEAL FOR EVERYDAY LIFE

Because it contains keratin, a protein naturally present in our bodies, wool is healthy for the skin and non-allergenic. The interlocking scales of its fibers provide good thermal insulation and help the body maintain its ideal temperature. Thanks to its capacity to retain a large quantity of air, wool keeps you warm in winter and, who would have thought, is a great ally in hot weather.

The scales of the wool open up to drain moisture to the outside.

Wool is also a hydrophobic material: it does not retain water but repels it. It lets the skin breathe by rejecting the water vapor naturally produced by our body. It can even absorb up to 35% of its weight in water while remaining completely dry to the touch, so don't hesitate to wear it in wet or rainy weather.

EASY-TO-CLEAN MATERIAL WITH LITTLE CREASING

Thanks to its strong and elastic fibers, wool is easy to clean and smooth. After wearing it, you only need to hang it up for a few hours to smooth it out on a hanger. Also, this material with waterproof qualities does not get dirty easily.

MANY POSSIBILITIES, MANY STYLES

There are many types and styles of wool. Virgin wool is the one most often used and comes from sheep. Cashmere comes from Himalayan goats, finer and also very warm, this wool is however more fragile than that of the sheep. For a lighter fall and resistant fibers, the mohair wool of angora goats is recommended. We can also bet on the alpaca of America. Angora, the most luxurious wool, comes from the rabbit.

WHY WOOLEN SUITS AT 17H10?

Wool for a tailor? that surprises you!

"Wool" does not only mean knitted sweater, bobbins and needles, since we can play with the diversity of wool types, we find very fine, feminine and high quality qualities. The most beautiful suits are made of wool.

OUR ITALIAN WOOL

We have chosen to source our wool from Italy, a country renowned for its cutting-edge know-how in weaving and spinning. Indeed, our transalpine neighbors have maintained a superior quality in the production of fabrics. Our spinning mill, Tollegno, is located at the foot of the Piedmont mountains near Milan. This company, which has existed for more than a century, attaches great importance to the transparency and traceability of its products while committing itself to sustainable projects.

For our suits, we have chosen a combed wool, a fluid and supple quality with a clean and regular appearance. It fits perfectly to the shape of the silhouette, so you can move without feeling constricted. Finally, worsted wool is known for its softness. The visual rendering is luminous with numerous reflections and a deep color.

Our first collection featured four wool colors: black, navy blue, taupe and dark green. The next spring-summer collection, which will be released in a month, will feature four more to be discovered very soon!

With a beautiful cut and a beautiful fabric, we are sure to finally have a suit worthy of the name.
